Willie Mae (Littlejohn) Stewart

Mrs. Willie Mae Littlejohn Stewart, 81, was born on June 18, 1944, in Kannapolis, NC, to the late Julius A. Littlejohn and the late Mary Sue Porter. Willie Mae was reared in the home of her grandparents, the late James & Willie McCluney Littlejohn. She was educated in the Union County Schools and a member of the Sims High School Class of 1964. She was employed by Lockhart Mills and Union Mills, but spent the majority of her adult years working as a spinner for United Merchants - Buffalo Mills until retirement. After retirement, she worked with Gibson & Brown and Divine Mortuaries, as well as various hospice agencies. She was a member of the Union County NAACP and the Jonesville Elementary Middle School PTO, where she volunteered in the school “Wildcat” canteen. She was also a member of the Jonesville High School Band Aide Club for many years.

Willie Mae loved the Lord. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined the New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member. She served faithfully on the Ushers Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Praise Team, Shepherds Corner, the Rutherford Chorus/Rutherford Mass Choir, the Missionary Ministry, the Culinary Ministry, the Potters House Ministry, and the Littlejohn Singers up until her health declined. Her passion was going to church and visiting other churches in the community. She relaxed listening to gospel music and singing her favorite songs.

She was preceded in death, along with her parents and grandparents, by one brother, Thomas “Randolph” Porter, and special friends Beverly Talley Gregg and Virgie Mae Glenn.

Left to cherish her loving memories are the father of her children, Aurenious Stewart, Jr., three daughters: Jacqueline S. (Danny) Good, Stephanie (Jerome) Glenn, and Lameia (Schdell) King, all of Jonesville, S.C., and one son, Frederick (Alicia) Stewart, of Union, SC; eleven grandchildren: Tiara (Ronald) Greene, II, Ashley Good, Carmen (Jerod) Moore, Marquise Stewart, TyDerius Glenn, Jaylen Glenn, ZyDell King, Ja’Meia King, Alondra (Terrel) Turner, Jaikaia Anderson, and Darren Brooks; eleven great-grandchildren: Arie, Ronald III, Jha’Riyah, Harmoniey, Airieona, Ja’Kari, Carmari, Eli’Jah, Ki’Lynn, True, and Kiyson. Three sisters: Marilyn Neal of Hurlock, MD, Lynn Porter Robinson, and Shirley Porter, both of Charlotte, NC; two brothers: Warren (Charlotte) Porter of Rock Hill, SC and Larry Porter of Charlotte, NC; one aunt, Marjorie Parks of Charlotte, NC; adopted children: George & Penny Jeter, Mary “Della” Robbins, Taleeta Kelly, all of Union, SC and Betty Smith of Jonesville, SC; four sister-in-laws: Frances Douglas, Carolyn Sims, Beverly Stewart, and Brenda (Aldra) Foster, and a brother-in-law, Jimmie Stewart, Sr.; Special Friends: Gayle Peake, Belinda Crosby, Juanita Henderson and Rosa Farnacci; five fur-grandchildren: Scarlet, Macie, Fendie, Zyra, and Angel, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Those who knew Willie Mae knew her greatest joy was her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured every single moment spent with them making memories. She easily made friends with the people that came into her life or the lives of her children. Whether it was at the grocery store, children in the school, or just a random person she met at Wal-Mart; no one was ever really a ‘stranger’ to her. She had a way of making people the center of her time and attention, and before long, she was calling them, ”my friend,” and they were affectionately calling her “Ma”.

Willie Mae leaves behind many cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
