Willie James Harris, widower of Alice Faye Harris and son of the late Kenneth Hughes and Beulah Mae Harris Byrd, was born in Union County, SC on June 4, 1923. He entered internal rest on September 30, 2021, in Heartland Nursing Home Union.
Willie James attended the public schools of Union County and was self-employed as a Master Plumber. He was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as an Usher, member Trustee Board and the All-Male Choir. He attended Sunday School and was a member of the Regional All Male Chorus.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; seven brothers, John D. “Pot” Harris, Herman Hughes, Lawrence Hughes, Bennie J. Hughes, John Hughes, L. J. Hughes, and Fred Byrd; three sisters, Ruth H. Coleman, Johnnie Mae Walker, and Hettie Henderson; four grandchildren, James N. Harris, Jr., Sharon Harris, Marcus Dionne Murphy, and Johnnie C. Harris.
He leaves precious memories to four sons, Johnnie C. (Mamie) Harris of Union, SC, James Nathan Harris of Detroit, MI, William Edward (Alean) Harris of Haz, MS, and Terry Lee Harris (Joyce) of Union, SC; four daughters, Georgia Mae Smith Tony) of Queens, NY, Christine Salter of Pacolet, SC, Dianne H. (George) Tyner of Union, SC, and Beverly (Jimmy) Sims of Union, SC; and host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; seven brothers, James D. (Betty) Byrd of Baltimore, MD, Charles Hughes of Spartanburg, SC, Russell Byrd of Union, SC, Buddy Byrd, Jr., Theodore Byrd, Larry (Joyce) Byrd of Union, SC, and Berra (Sophia) Byrd of Union, SC; four sisters, Carolina Johnson of Atlantic City, NY, Annie A. Jones of Spartanburg, SC, Mae Frances Byrd of Union, SC, and Marie Byrd of Union, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
