Virginia Lyles Obituary

     Virginia Lea Goode Lyles, age 74 was born on February 4, 1948, to the late Elzie and Frances Jeter Goode. She spent majority of her life residing at 225 Vaughn Road, Union, South Carolina. Ms. Lyles, “Auntie,” or “Bug” as she was affectionately known departed this Earth for her heavenly home in Saturday afternoon, July 9, 2022. She was a faithful member of New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church from childhood until she moved to Nashville, Tennessee. There she was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend R. L. Denson. The choir become a passion of hers while at First Baptist and she continued to embrace it once she moved back home to South Carolina as a member of the Rutherford Mass Choir. She was also well respected and loved as a Bible School Teacher for the adult congregation. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her close friends. Virginia graduated 5th in the Class of 1966 from Sims High School in Union, South Carolina. She then went on to further her education at Cecil’s Business College before attending Temple University in Pennsylvania. She spent the formative years of her career as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. While in Pennsylvania she also served as a member of the Army Reserves. Later in life she returned to South Carolina where she worked for Alcoa Fujikura, Ltd as an office manager until a promotion to international sales and marketing manager relocated her family to Nashville, Tennessee. She worked at the corporate headquarters for over fifteen years before retiring and returning to South Carolina.  She will be cherished and fondly remembered by her precious sons, Darryl (Angela) Lyles of Smyrna, Tennessee and Christian Lyles of Charlotte, North Carolina; her four grandchildren, Darryl Lyles, II, Kalen Lyles, Taylor Barkley, and Jessica Barkley; two great-grandchildren, Calvin Lane, III and Laine Lyles; three sisters, Shirley Brock of Jonesville, SC, Elsie (Juerg) Nydegger of Moore, SC, and Bertha (Andre) Dawkins of Spartanburg, SC; two brothers, Eugene (Sally) Goode of Blair SC and Elzie (Sherry) Goode of Union, SC; a special sister/cousin/friend, Queen Henderson of Union, SC. as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who were dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister: Jerry, Perry, Kenneth, and Pamela Goode. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and church congregation. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 225 Vaughn Road, Union, SC. Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
