Velveree (Smith) "Punkin" Hughes

Velveree Smith Hughes, 77, of Union, SC passed away Friday afternoon, December 9, 2022 at her residence. A native of Union County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John E. Smith and Nazaree Davis Smith.  She was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church of Jonesville, SC. She was a 1963 graduate of Sims High School. She was an employee of United Merchants Buffalo Mill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Smith Hill.  She leaves precious memories to one son, Nequa Hughes of Union, SC; three daughters, Nena Glenn (Willie) of Union, SC, Teresa Thompson (Gary) of Union, SC, and Utedia Means of Union, SC; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnny Smith (Penny) of Jonesville, SC; one sister, Minnie Lipscombe of Jonesville, SC; brother-in-law, Minister James Hill, Jr. of Jonesville, SC; one aunt, Annie Rodgers; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at 902 Lakeside Drive, Union, SC.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
