Thomas Lounds, Jr. Obituary

Thomas Allen Lounds, Jr., beloved husband of Cynthia S. Lounds of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, SC.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Thomas was the son of the late Cora Walker and Thomas A. Lounds, Sr. He lived a remarkable life characterized by determination, perseverance, intellectual curiosity, a love of sports, and a strong sense of purpose. His dedication to excellence was evident in both his personal and professional endeavors.

Thomas attended Walnut Hills High School, a school for gifted students. He continued his education at The University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio and earned a BS Degree in Biology. During his time at Miami University, he was aa founding member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. establishing a legacy of leadership, service, and brotherhood.

After finishing college, Thomas returned to his high school to teach. After teaching for several years, he decided to explore opportunities in the world of business. Thomas had a long and diverse career in marketing and was able to travel the world. Some of the companies he worked for included Proctor & Gamble, Wendy's International, Denny's and Cleveland White Real Estate.

While Thomas achieved many things throughout his life, he will be remembered most for the person he was. He possessed a quick wit, a warm, and welcoming smile, and a gift for making those around him feel valued. He enjoyed meaningful conversations and had a special way of encouraging others to think deeply, see the world differently, and consider new perspectives. His humor and playful spirit brought endless joy, especially to his beloved granddaughters, who cherished the laughter and memories they shared with him.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Figueroa, and his son, Thomas "Tommy" A. Lounds, IIІ.

 Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Cynthia; sons, Jeffrey Allen Lounds of Cleveland, Ohio and Dr. Wm. Marcus (Dr. Dione) Morris of Athens, Georgia; daughter, Dr. MaryEtta C. Morris of Chicago, Illinois.; daughter-in- law: Cathy Lounds of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren: Alexia Lounds of Los Angeles, California, Ray Figueroa of Cleveland, Ohio, Jaimele Bettis of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Bettis of Omaha, Nebraska, Olivia Morris, Melody Morris and Kathryn Morris of Athens, Georgia; great granddaughter: Angelise Crosson of Los Angeles, California; brothers-in-law: Willie (the late Josephine) McBeth and Marvin (Nannie Mae) Shands of Pacolet, South Carolina; sisters-in-law: Mary (the late Clyde) Littlejohn of Tacoma, Washington and Mary Shands of Cleveland, Ohio, Elaine Shands, Spartanburg, South Carolina and a host of extended family members and dear friends

The arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
