Shelia M. Young was a native of Union SC, born November 2, 1967 to the late Mr. Allen and Dorothy Young. Ms. Shelia was a proud graduate of Union County High School class of 1987. Shelia served Union County school district for over 25 years before retiring in December of 2019. Shelia was an active member of Beatty’s Chapel AME Zion Church where she served as President of Missionary committee, Director of the youth choir, member of the Adult Gospel choir, Senior choir, and usher board. Shelia continued the legacy of the Johnson singers which years later became a sought after quartet group. Shelia has traveled the country evangelizing by way of song. Many knew her as, “Songbird.” Shelia lived her life through Isaiah 40:31-But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Shelia is predeceased by her parents, Allen and Dorothy Young; maternal grandparents, the late William and Elizabeth Booker, and her paternal grandparents Frank and Steady-Bell Young, two brothers, Allen F. Young and John C Young and a great nephew, K’Haden Anderson.
She leaves behind five sisters Rachel, Renee, and Annie Young all of Union SC, Tracey Suber of Jonesville SC, and Zelda Young-Bishop of Newberry SC; one brother James Young of Union SC; two God children, J.R. Bishop and Z’Lani Bates; six nieces, Miracle Bishop and Iclynn Anderson of Newberry SC, Courtney Hall of Union SC, Rita, and A'liyah Suber, and Tamisha Carson, all of Jonesville SC; three nephews, Alvin and Zachary Young of Union SC, and Maurice Suber of Jonesville SC; and a host of great nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
