Samuel Wilson Hammond

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, God called to eternal rest husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Deacon Samuel Wilson Hammond Sr.

He was born on October 11, 1959, in Union County to the late Wilson Hammond and Mary Elmira Hammond Richards. He was a 1977 graduate of Union High School. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a medical specialist and there after received an honorable discharge in 1979.

Samuel was an active member of Bethesda Baptist Church. He served as assistant chairman of the deacon board. He was also a member of the Pulpit and Pastor Aide and advisor to the young men ministry. Sam was also a member of Farmer’s Enterprise Lodge #280. He retired from Milliken after thirty-five years of dedicated service.

He was embraced with the love and care of his wife of forty-three years, Yvonne Hammond. This union was blessed with three beloved children, Tiffany Davis, LaShanda Hammond, and Samuel (Jocelyn) Hammond of all of Union, SC; six special grandchildren, Samuel Hammond, III, Alyjah Stewart, Jamal Dawkins, Jr., Jalon Dawkins, Amaria Harris all of Union SC, and Samia Hammond of Fayetteville, NC; his mother-in-law, Lillie Marie Davis; two aunts, Maotha Jones of Mauldin, SC and Mamie Walton of Union SC; three sisters-in-law, Tammy (James) Jeter, Cassandra  Tucker, and Carmen Davis all of Union, SC; and a host of other loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, all of whom will sorely miss him. 

Samuel was preceded in death by one beloved brother, Douglas Hammond; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Hammond; and one brother-in-law, Lewis Tucker all of Union, SC.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
