Sammie Lee Woodruff was born December 14, 1954, to the late Malcolm “Mack” Woodruff and Willie Mae Foster Woodruff. A native of Spartanburg County, he was of the Baptist faith. He departed this life on December 26, 2024, surrounded by family.
“Sam” as he was affectionately known as, was educated in Spartanburg County Schools and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Switzer; three brothers, Johnny Earl Woodruff, Malcolm Mack Woodruff, Jr., Ernest Earl Woodruff; four sisters, Corrie Rice, Gladys Vernette Thompson, Mary Jane Glenn, Patricia Ann Parks; and brother-in-law, Myra Mckinney.
Sam is survived by his wife, Vickie Campbell Woodruff of the home; two sons, Samuel Ellis and Brandon Woodruff; god-daughter, Diamond Gibson; four grandchildren, Dondrequey Woodruff, Yasmine Ellis, Shamyah Penn, and Karmen Woodruff; one great-granddaughter, Xaivzi Elaine Woodruff; four brothers, Willie James (Cynthia) Woodruff, Billy Ray (Janice) Woodruff, Thomas Edward Woodruff, and Robert Lewis Woodruff; two sisters, Shirley Mae McKinney, and Sylvia Ann Woodruff; a beloved cousin and caregiver, Marylyn “Pumpkin” Sanders; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Community Mortuary, Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
