Margaret Charlotte Parker Simmons, 85, of 464 Duncan Street, Spartanburg, SC passed way Monday night, April 19, 2021 at her residence. She was born on January 7, 1936 in Stony Point in Alexander County, NC. She was the widow of Samuel Francis Simmons, Jr. and the daughter of the late Robert A. Parker and Lillian McClain Parker. She was a member of Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church. She graduated in 1954 from Happy Plains High School in the Township Taylorsville, NC. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp on March 13, 1955. Her first tour of duty ended on June 13, 1957. She reenlisted in August 1957 and was honorably discharged in January 1960. She married Staff Sergeant Samuel F. Simmons, Jr. in 1959, and moved with him to Fort Knox, KY in 1963. Upon her husband's discharge in 1965, they along with their four children moved to Spartanburg, SC. She graduated from the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1974. She enjoyed and extensive career in healthcare having worked at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, the SC School for the Deaf and Blind, Magnolia Manor Nursing Home, and Mountainview Nursing Home. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Haven Parker, Artrue Parker, Charles Parker, Robert Parker, Fred Parker, Tallie Parker, Willie Eugene Parker, Lucille Parker, Corrine Connor, Vallie Chen, and twins, Novita and Salvo. She is survived by one son, Samuel Francis (Brenda) Simmons, III of Spartanburg, SC; three daughters, Betty Lynn Simmons (James) of Spartanburg, SC, Pamela Rose (Franklin) Burgess of Moore, SC, and Frances Kay Burgess of Spartanburg, SC; eight grandchildren, Fredderick (Shanee) Burgess, Clarissa Simmons, Lisa Simmons, Allen Smith, Cederick Burgess, Charlotte Burgess, Maceo Burgess, and Marcel Burgess; five great-grandchildren, Shakila Crawford; Zaria Scott, Ceriaya Lyles, Maddox Briggs, and Ocean Briggs; two brothers, Farley Reo Parker and Alonzo Dale Parker both of Stony Point, NC; two sisters, Betty Banks and Carrie Pulley both of Stony Point, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church of Sptbg. Burial with military honors will follow in Lincoln Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home. Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
