Malzetta Hampton Abernathy, 79, of 206 Gage Avenue, Union, SC formerly of 913 Union Boulevard, Union , SC passed away Wednesday morning, August 12, 2020. A native of Union County, she was the widow of George Washington "G" Abernathy, Jr. and daughter of the late Morris McKanic and Johnnie Willie Hampton. She attended Sims High School and earned her living at Buffalo Mills as well as Grace Management. She was a faithful member of New Horizon United Christian Church of Union, SC. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Franklin Tyrone Abernathy; two brothers, Randolph Hampton and Wayne McKanick; one sister, Sarah Hampton. She is survived by four sons, George Nathaniel (Cheryl Lynn) Hampton of Jacksonville, FL, Duvance Hampton of Union, SC; George Washington Abernathy III and Bruce Wesley Hampton both of CT; one daughter, Elaine Hampton Rhodes of Union, SC; eight grandchildren; one brother, Edward McKanick; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, 206 Gage Avenue, Union, SC. Arrangements are with Community Mortuary Inc., 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC 29379.
