Lucille (Gist) Wright Edwards

Sharing Her Story

Lucille Gist Wright Edwards was born on January 24, 1924 the daughter of the late Will Sims and Louise Gist.   A native of the Pickney Township, Adamsburg Community in Union County, SC, she was the widow of Curtis Edwards.  To her first union with Elguster Wright, Sr., there were two children born:  Minister Elgusta “Gus” (Brenda) Wright and the late Minister Brenda (Harry) Wright Byrd

 A Life Well Spent:

Lucille was a born-again Christian.  She was a life-long member and “Mother” of Mount. Rowell Baptist Church, Union, SC.  She joined Floyd Wilkes Chapter No. 208, OES in 1951 which later merged with Enterprise Chapter #105 in 2018.  She served as a faithful member in various auxiliaries and capacities at Mount Rowell which included Past President of the Usher Boards, Culinary Department, Missionary Society, and Pastor Aid.

 Lucille was a Sales Agent for NC Mutual Insurance Company for many years until retirement.  She served in the Culinary Department for Adamsburg Schools.  In addition, she was a Nursing Assistant and Caretaker for many families in Union County.

 Sunset:

Lucille transitioned from labor to reward on July 10, 2020 at The Inverness at Spartanburg after having stayed almost three years as a resident of Heartland of Union.

 She was the last surviving sibling of four children: two brothers, Harold Gist and Estes Jeter and one sister, Helen Gist Wilson.

 Those Who Remain:

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law,  Minister Elgusta (Brenda) Wright of Union, SC, she is survived by two stepdaughters,  Lillie Ruth Edwards and Lucille Quincy both of Gaffney, SC; one stepson, Robert Edwards of Annapolis< MD; four grandchildren, Veronica Renee (Timothy) Brown of Greenville, SC, Darren (Christie) Wright of Greenville, SC, Brittany (Rashid) Murray of Fort Mill, SC, and Shavonna Watkin Byrd of Union, SC; six great-grandchildren, Morgan and Joshua Brown, Makayla Strozier and Maddison Wright all of Greenville, SC, Jayden Taylor of Lexington, SC, and Chedrick Goodwyn, Jr. of Union, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,and friends.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Rowell Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Larry D. Murphy officiating.  The family will receive friends at the home.  Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
