Lamont Woods Obituary

Lamont Woods, age 52, born in New York and later residing in Union, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on January 16, 2026.

Lamont was a quiet and private man with a loving spirit and a heart far greater than he ever spoke about. He was known for his kindness and his willingness to help anyone in need, never hesitating to show up for others. Cooking and fishing brought him joy, and those moments reflected the calm and care he carried throughout his life. Lamont proudly referred to himself as the “Grill Master,” and his family couldn’t agree more. His love was always felt most around the grill, where food and laughter brought everyone together.

Above all else, Lamont loved his children deeply. Being a father was his greatest pride, and the bond he shared with his daughters was one of unwavering love and devotion.

Lamont worked as a truck driver for many years, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. Through long days and countless miles on the road, he remained committed to providing for and supporting his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Genevieve Woods; great-grandmother, Geneva Evans; brothers Wesley Tolbert, and James Robert Woods, affectionately known as “Boo”; sister, Sylvia Ann Henderson Thomas; and niece Markesha Woods.

Lamont is survived by his two beloved daughters, Natyia Woods and Karisma Woods; and two cherished grandchildren, Kehlani Hall and Cassius Hall.

He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Woods (Muriel), Mike Butler (Clara) of NC, Shawn Fleming of Rock Hill, SC, and Frederick Burton of New York; and his sisters, Patricia Woods of Union, SC, and Quo-Votis Covington of NC.

Leaving to cherish his memory are eight nieces, Taquana Woods, Ebony Woods, Raven Simuel, Lisa Woods, Lachic Henderson, Latreace Humphries (Malcolm), Lakeisha Johnson (Louis), and Lakela Henderson; and  nine nephews, Gebre Mitchell, Montre Jeter, Tavante Woods, Kristopher Thompson, Jordan Woods, Corenze Fleming, Nyjajuan Jeter, Joe Woods Jr, and Spanky Johnson along with a host of other nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Lamont’s quiet strength, generous heart, and deep love for his family will forever be remembered.
