Kenneth "Coon" Dawkins, 73, of Union, SC, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born in Union County on October 29, 1951, Kenneth “Coon” Dawkins was the son of the late Ms. Carrie Lee Dawkins.
Kenneth graduated from Sims high School in 1969. He joined St. Luke Baptist Church at an early age and served on the choir and was a Trustee. After relocating to Spartanburg, he fellowshipped with New Salem Zion Baptist Church, Crossroads Baptist Church and most recently with Eastside Baptist Church until his health declined. He was a member of Widow Son and Lodge #34 and Tamin Temple #155. “Coon” spent his leisure time working on cars. He also enjoyed tinkering with model cars and baking. He loved children and they loved him too. He never met a stranger and had a big heart. His family fondly refers to him as being a gentle giant.
Many fond and lovely memories will be cherished by his family to include a son, Marcus Moore (Danielle) of Baltimore, MD; reared in the home, Kelvin and Kelviona Crook of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Katherine Johnson and Raymouth Dawkins of Union, SC; a special cousin reared in the home, Patricia (Henry) Johnson of Spartanburg, SC; two grandchildren, Damarcus and Ayanna Moore; one niece, Rachella Johnson of Union, SC; one nephew, Jermaine Johnson of Boiling Springs, SC; two great nieces, Kierra Johnson of Columbia, SC and Mila Johnson, of Union, SC; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
