Kay Jeter Obituary

Kay Frances Williams Jeter, 77, of Spartanburg, SC entered eternal rest peacefully on Sunday night August 29, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center – Mary Black Campus.  A native of Spartanburg, SC she was the wife of James Earl Jeter and the daughter of the late Geneva Gilmore Williams and Reuben Williams.  Kay was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many capacities.  She was the last member of the original Senior Choir having ministered in song for over seventy years, president of the Kitchen Committee, Custodian and Senior Missionary.  She was also a 1962 graduate of Carver High School.  She worked in several areas and was a caregiver to many over the years.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, James Anthony Jeter and Corey Levar, her sisters, Dorothy Ann Gilmore “Mama Dot” Robinson and Mary Louise Gilmore Watt.  Those who remain to cherish her loving memory include her husband of fifty-two years, James Earl Jeter of the home; her daughter, Keisha Lesonn Jeter (Marcus Gist) of Spartanburg, SC; her grandchildren, Kenasia Floyd, Ethan Lashaun Floyd, Isaiah Floyd , Kalynn Porter, Anthony Cortez Jeter (Takia Powell) and Jameisha Jeter along with their mother Tamika Wade all of Spartanburg, SC; her great grandchildren; Aminna, Julian Ramyah, Ava and Korrie Mae; brothers-in-law, Paul (Lynester) Jeter of Campobello, SC and Reverend Curtis Smith of Spartanburg, SC; sisters in law, Judy Woodruff, Frances E. Jeter and Frances L. Jeter all of Spartanburg County, SC; a special great niece, Tiffany Watt and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.  The family will receive friends at the home.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
