Juanita Corbett, affectionately known as “Nana,” was born Juanita Landrum in Spartanburg County, SC on March 16, 1939, to the late Charlie and Della Landrum. She received her high school diploma from Pace University College and went on to build a long and dedicated career at Citibank, where she worked faithfully for over thirty years before retiring in 1991. After retirement, Juanita returned home to South Carolina, a place she always loved.
Juanita was united in marriage to the late Willie Frank Corbett, with whom she shared forty years of partnership and devotion. A woman of strong faith, she served joyfully on the usher board, sang in the choir, senior missionary ministry, and YWMA ministry, and kitchen ministry at Mr. Pleasant Baptist Church. Before Juanita moved back home, she was a member at Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Robert L. Moody. She also sang on the choir and served on the usher board.
Juanita was a member of Eastern Star known for her talents and passions. Juanita loved sewing, doing alterations, and making clothes for family and friends with care and creativity. She enjoyed word search puzzles, coloring, caring for her beloved plants and listening to gospel music.
Her quiet hobbies reflected her nurturing nature and the peace she brought into the lives of those around her.
Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Frank Corbett; parents Charlie and Della Landrum; brothers, Leslie “Bill” Landrum, Cecil (Mary) Holcombe, Robert (Jackie) Landrum; Hollis Landrum; her son, Derrick Landrum; grandson, Jay Davis; brother-in-law, Charlie Corbett; sisters-in-law, Queenie Yarbough, Ethel Corbett, Katie “Sis” Corbett; and her great -grandchild, Zorie.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her sons Donald (Belinda) Landrum of Spartanburg, SC, Greg (Cynthia) Landrum of Inman, SC, Tyrone Landrum and Anthony Landrum both of Staten Island, NY; daughters, Gretchen McCain of the home and Kelly Corbett of Staten Island, NY. Juanita also lovingly raised her grandchildren, Jason Landrum, Charles Floyd, and Juanita Floyd who proudly carries her name; her godchildren, Warren Landrum, Marsha (Marco) Richardson, Marta (Anthony) Williams, and Mikayla Williams. She is also survived by her brother Charlie (Cora) Landrum of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Shirley Glenn of Landrum, SC, Joyce (Charles) Robinson, V. Janice Carpenter both of Inman, SC, and Joan Landrum of Charlotte, NC.
She leaves behind brothers-in-law, Robert, Eddie, Joseph, and John Corbett; sisters-in-law, Josephine Brown, and Anne Doris (Michael) Bowen.
Juanita’s legacy extends through her twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; spiritual sons and daughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her aunt Frances Ruth Robinson; the sole survivor of the first generation; her good friend Ruth Lattimore.
Her life was a testament to hard work, faith, and love. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
