It is with deep love and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Johnie C. Harris, who departed this life on July 26, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on June 8, 1943, Johnie was a man of quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and a deeply rooted sense of service. He was a proud graduate of Sims High School, and shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. During his military service in the Vietnam War, he earned a technical degree in plumbing—honoring the legacy of his family. Johnie remained devoted to supporting fellow veterans throughout his life, mentoring young servicemen and women and working closely with the VA to enhance care for veterans and their families.
After his military service, Johnie spent over 30 years with Torrington Company, now known as Ingersoll Rand. However, he is perhaps most fondly remembered for founding and operating Harris Pulpwood in Union, South Carolina, a business that became a hallmark of his determination, resilience, and commitment to community.
Johnie was a man of few words but immense impact. He found joy in the simplicity of hard work and the comfort of old Western movies. His presence was steady, his heart generous, and his love for family unwavering. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 62 years, Mamie Harris; devoted children, Donnie Harris (Larissa) and Jonica Harris; adored grandchildren, Shakurra, Zaletha, Kimana, Kiku, Kenji, Denver, and Kaiya; and precious great-grandchildren, Faith and Marcel. He is also survived by a host of siblings, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
"The true measure of a man is not how he dies, but how he lives - in service, in love, and in the legacy he leaves behind."
Johnie C. Harris leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
