John Arthur Lyles

John Lyles passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 2, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home surrounded by family. Known to close family and friends as “JL,” he was the son of the late L.B. and Bobbie Jean Sartor Lyles.

A native of Carlisle, South Carolina, John attended Union County Schools. He was a former employee of Cone Mills Carlisle Finishing Plant before relocating to Dayton, OH in the early 2000s. There he was employed with Shaw Cleaners for seventeen years. He was an avid sports fan having played baseball with the original Carlisle Sluggers in the 1980s and a dedicated fan to the Washington Redskins. 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandson, Kade Henry; sister, Betty Jean Lyles Mobley; niece, Akilah Mobley; and a nephew, D’Andre Howze.

John leaves to cherish fond memories; his wife, Sharzet Johnson-Lyles of Lancaster, PA; three sons, Kendrick (Prescilla) Lyles of Summerville, SC, Akeem Rice of Spartanburg SC, and Jonathan Johnson of Lancaster, PA; six daughters, Courtney Rice of Columbia, SC, Shanequa (Martinus) Jeter of Columbia, SC, Johnna Johnson of Spartanburg, SC, Shaunita Johnson of Union, SC, Shatyma (Tony) Henry-McDowell of Clinton, SC, and Jameisha Henry of Columbia, SC; two brothers, James Lee Lyles of Union, SC and Dale Sims of Dayton, OH; three sisters, Sadie Jeter of Union, SC, Juanita Lyles of Carlisle, SC, and Margaret Sims of Dayton, OH;  two very close and dear cousins,  Charles Sartor of Charlotte, NC and Sylvester Savage of WV; nineteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close cousins, and friends.  

The family will receive friends at 105 Kissy Creek Circle, Union, SC. Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc. 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
