Joe Henry Haywood entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 7, 2021 after a brief illness. Joe was born April 20, 1941 in Spartanburg, SC to the late Zemora Haywood and the late Leon Mills. Joe was a lifelong member and deacon of Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church in Whitney, SC. He was educated in the Spartanburg County School System and graduated from Carver High School in 1959. He first began working at Flowers Bakery and later for Hammond, Brown & Jennings and became the first African American salesman for the company. His outstanding work earned his recognition as “Salesman of the Year” many times. He also worked for Lee’s Furniture. After retiring he served as a funeral attendant for the Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home and the Community Mortuary. Our father enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, and socializing. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, Gaston Calvin Haywood, Jr. and Beauford Haywood; one sister, Martha Haywood; one aunt, Eula Mae Haywood; and one grandson, Larrington A. Richardson, Jr. Joe was formerly married to Eleanor Loreece Foster in 1960 and from that union they had two daughters. Left to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life are two daughters, Sharon Haywood-Madden of Gastonia, NC and Linda Williams (Milon) of Lyman, SC; six grandchildren, Joseph Giddins (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC, Sierra Haywood (Derrick) of Columbia, SC, Reginald Harris of Baltimore, MD, Darius Richardson of Spartanburg, SC, and Raymond Harris of Charlotte, NC. five great grandchildren, Jabari, Carter, Jayden, Riley, and Ashton; two brothers Robert Haywood and Roy Haywood both of Spartanburg, SC; one godson, Carlton Brown; one goddaughter, Dana Haywood; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at 222 High Street, Spartanburg, SC. Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, Inc, 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
