Jesse James Hardy, Jr. was born on October 7, 1950. A native of Union, SC, he was the son of the late Jessie James "Pop" Hardy, Sr. and Martha Irene Young Hardy.
Jesse was a member of Antioch AME Church. He attended Sims High School where he was a star student in first chair trumpet of the JROTC Band. After graduating high school in 1968, Jesse received a full scholarship to Johnson C. Smith University; however, he attended the University of South Carolina at Union. He later established himself as a renowned master brick mason contributing to countless construction projects in the upstate region.
On Wednesday morning, August 3, 2022, Jesse entered eternal rest at Union Medical Center in Union, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Carlin Cornwell, Sr. and two brothers, Reverend Arthur Jerome "Roach" Hardy and Willie Leroy Hardy.
He leaves to cherish many fond memories three daughters, Michelle (Reginald) Hughey of Spartanburg, SC, Shaketha (Tremaine) Rorie of Winston Salem, NC, and Aryahna Cohen of Columbia, SC; four sons, Jesse James (Kimberly) Hardy, III of Dacula, GA, Arlando Salter of Union, SC, Manderian Smith of Spartanburg, SC, and Jonathan Hardy of Oakland, CA; eighteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Michael Eugene (Linda) Hardy of Union, SC; one sister, Jacqueline Hardy Fleming of Union, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Special acknowledgement to his former wife, Carolyn Spencer Hardy and mother-in-law, Dorothy Dean Spencer of Carlisle, SC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022, at Community Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Antioch AME Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 118 East Lee Street, Union, SC. (Masks are required at all services and when visiting the home.
