James Allen Davis, husband of Shirley Dean Davis and son of the late James Williams and Maude Davis Daniels, was born in Brunswick, GA on September 12, 1949. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
James was a 1967 graduate of the historical all black Risley High School and a graduate of Greenville Technical College. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served faithfully. He was a Trustee, member of the Male Choir, Senior Brotherhood, mentor and coach to the Junior Brotherhood Track and Field Events, and the Kitchen Committee.
James was affectionately known to the children as "The Candyman" as he greeted them with peppermints and Jolly Ranchers every Sunday. He worked as an OSHA inspector for J. P. Stevens for many years and was an avid Over-the- Road truck driver as well a manufacturing worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jasmeen Mercer.
James leaves to cherish many memories; his wife, Shirley Dean Davis of the home; one son, Christopher James Davis of Duncan, SC; two daughters, Dywalla Patrice Davis-Williams of Jacksonville, FL and April Dorch of Bridgewater, NJ; four grandchildren, LaKeisha Young, Alex Smith and Karveil Smith; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence (Mary F.) Daniels of Spartanburg, SC; one sister, Charlie D. Atkinson of Brunswick, GA; Mickey Meredith of Duncan, SC, whom he loved as a daughter; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Collins, Louise Alexander, Lois Dean, Lena Glenn, Frankie Rice, Patty McDowell and Marilyn McDowell: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
