Today, we celebrate the life of Mrs. Irene Ruth Renwick Wilson who transitioned to life eternal on July 18, 2024.
Irene was born to Clarence and Irene Renwick on August 5, 1946, in the Cross Keys Community of Union County, SC. She came from a loving and dedicated family which included the following siblings, Clarence (Matilda) Renwick of Cross Keys, SC, Geraldine Power (Calvin) of Glenarden, Maryland.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Irene Renwick; a brother, Precious Renwick; sisters, Margaret McBeth, Mary Pierce Jones, and Henrietta McBeth; and a stepdaughter, Adrienne Mason.
Irene graduated from Sims High School and earned a Master of Science degree from the University of District of Columbia. Upon graduating from high school, she moved to Washington, DC where she met and married the man of her dreams, Charles Harvey Wilson, who hailed from Strong, Arkansas and was a government employee. They were married in 1987. Upon earning her master’s degree, she became one of the head librarians in the DC library branches. Additionally, after marriage, she joined the Gospel Choir of Metropolitan Wesley Zion Church and served in the South Carolina Club and the Women’s Ministry.
Upon retirement she relocated to her southern roots in South Carolina and rejoined the Macedonia Christian United Church. She served as a Steward, sang on the choir, vice president of the Usher Board and secretary. She performed volunteer work at the hospital and at the public library.
She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Wilson; two grandsons, Malik Mason and Jeffrey Corbin, Jr. In addition, she is survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members and friends.
