Hershel Lee Griffin

Mr. Hershel Lee Griffin, widower of Earline Dodd Griffin was born on March 20, 1933, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina to the late Leandres Griffin and Lois Woodruff Griffin. On March 2, 2023, he answered the Master’s Call.

Hershel was reared in the home of his maternal aunt and uncle, the late Marie and Major Young. He was a 1951 graduate of Carver High School. Herschel was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board for many years. He was a retired employee of Reeves Brothers, Inc. after fifty plus years of dedicated service.

Left to cherish fond and loving memories are his daughter, Patricia Darlene (Daniel) Robinson; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Guiyion) Mallory, Cashel (Abena) Robinson, Marqui Robinson, Lavargio Tanner, and Carlos Tanner; four great-grandchildren, Kirsten (Isaiah) Parham, Braxton Mallory,  Jamaree McKissick,  and Dakel Robinson; three great-great-grandchildren,  Zoey, Kallan, and Shiloh Parham; a son-in-law, Willie Tanner all of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his sister, Azzie Lee Durant; three brothers, Ulysses (Gloria) Griffin, John Earl (Mattie) Griffin, and Clarence (Hattie) Griffin; a special friend; Ruth Jefferies all of Spartanburg, South Carolina; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Marie Tanner; his sisters, Mildred Griffin and Evelyn Wilkins; and various family members.

The family will receive friends at 110 Woodride Court, Spartanburg, SC.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
