On Monday, January 6, 2020, Herbert Hoover DuBois Jr., passed away at age 57. Herbert was born on January 23, 1962 in Spartanburg, SC to Herbert and Sarah (Whitener) DuBois Sr. Herbert was an engaged student and a loving son and brother. As a student at Spartanburg High School, Herbert was a member of the SHS band and graduated in 1980. A talented musician, Herbert was known for playing the trombone and went on to play for the Marching 101 at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC. Herbert served honorably in the United States Air Force for many years, beginning his military career in Zaragoza, Spain in 1981. He notably became a member of the Free Masons in September of 1983 while serving overseas. In addition to his service in Spain, Herbert also served in Germany, Sacramento, CA, Marietta, GA, Sumter, SC and Denver, CO where he discovered his love for the Denver Broncos after attending his first professional NFL game. Trained by the Air Force Security Police Academy, Herbert served as a security police officer while on active duty and within the Office of Special Investigations when he was in the reserves. He also served as a member of the Spartanburg Police Department. Following in the footsteps of his mother Sarah who was known for her delectable dishes, in his later years, Herbert took many cooking courses where he gained a number of chef certifications. He spent his final years in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he enjoyed spending time at the beach. Herbert was preceded in death by his father, Herbert, and his mother, Sarah. He is survived by his two sons, Herbert Hoover DuBois III and Charles Edward Dubois, his sister, Zelinda DuBois, and many loving family members and friends.
