Harold Gay

Harold Gay, 71, of 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, SC passed away Sunday afternoon, June 20, 2021 in Martha Franks Retirement Community in Laurens, SC.  A native of Brooklyn, NY, he was the husband of Rowena Holcomb-Gay and the son of the late Rachel Julia Gay. He was a member of Monks Grove Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army where his primary duty station was Viet Nam. For twenty dedicated years he worked as a Mental Hygiene Therapist Aid at Staten Island Developmental Center. He also worked as a Living Support Professional at the Charles Lea Center where he was employed prior to his retirement. Mr. Gay was a graduate of Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY.  He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife, Rowena Holcomb-Gay of the home; two sons, John Washington of Upstate, NY and Donald Holcomb-Sneed of Fairfax, SC; one daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Holcomb of New Orleans, LA; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren;  one sister, Sandra Allen of West Columbia, SC; one nephew, Raheem Vance (Kim) of GA; two nieces, Lisa Allen of NC and Catherine Allen of SC; devoted family members: aunt, Helen Vance of GA, cousins, Loretta Stokes, Helen Chavis, James Taylor of Staten Island, NY and Barbara Rowe of FL;and a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Monks Grove Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the home.  Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
