SPARTANBURG, SC—Gracie Middleton McIntyre of 2002 Center Street entered eternal rest on Friday evening, April 5, 2024, at her residence.
She was born on July 11, 1926, in Spartanburg County. She was the widow of Willie James McIntyre and the daughter of the late Ernest Middleton and Marie Littlejohn.
She joined Holden Chapel Missionary Baptist in 1935 at the age of 9. Thoughout her time she served on the Gospel choir, as the youth Sunday school teacher, Sunbeam children's choir director, Junior Usher board director, Vacation Bible School director, President of the Culinary board, Director and Planner of Holiday and Special Events. She held various positions on several Sympathy Club organizations, creating the Sigsbee Sympathy Club in her community. After retirement, she served as a childcare provider to countless children in Spartanburg and Union counties.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, two brothers and one grandson.
Survivors include three daughters, Mattie (Robert) Moore, Nola (Nick) McVetta, and Peggy (Zannie) Graham; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at 2002 Center Street, Spartanburg, SC.
