Gladys McBeth Booker was born on June 7, 1933, the daughter of the late Louis McBeth, Sr. and Inez Agnes Rice McBeth. She was a native of the Cross Keys Community in Union County, SC and was the widow of Albert Booker. To this union there were four children, Odell Booker, of the home, John L. (Sarah) Booker of Cross Keys SC, James R. Booker of Spartanburg SC, and the late Helen Ruth Booker.
Gladys was a born-again Christian. She was a life-long member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Union, SC where she served as a faithful member of the Gospel Choir, Usher Board, and Treasurer of the Missionary Society.
Gladys was a homemaker for many years until her retirement, then began to babysit for families in the Union and Spartanburg area.
Gladys transitioned from labor to reward on December 4, 2021 at the Physical Rehabilitation Wellness Center after having stayed five years as a resident.
Gladys is survived by one sister, Hazel Jackson of Cleveland, OH and was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Albert McBeth, Jr. and Andrew McBeth; six sisters, Inez Booker, Fannie Allen, Myrtes Jeter, Dora Johnson, Ruth Jeter and Mary Vera Young; a grandson, Juan “LB” Booker, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her sons and daughter-in-law, she is survived by six grandchildren, Katrina Greene, of Columbia, SC, Samantha Toland-Smith of Cross Keys, SC, Purcell (Lisa) Booker of Spartanburg, SC, Merka Booker of Roebuck, SC, Willie Booker of Cross Keys, SC, Jamie (Bobbie) Booker of San Antonio, TX; seventeen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Katina Palmer Posey officiating. The family will receive friends of the home of her son, John Booker, 209 Hilltop Road in the Cross Keys Community.
