Esther Lean Hunter, 95, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, was born on Tuesday, August 6, 1929. She entered eternal rest on Monday, July 28, 2025, at her home. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Jim Hunter and the beloved daughter of the late Mayfield Shelton and Daisy Anderson Shelton.
Esther was educated in the New York School System and went on to earn her associate’s degree as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She dedicated her career to compassionately caring for others in New York City.
In addition to her husband and parents, Esther was preceded in death by her sisters, Plezie Shelton, Elise Knuckles, Ruby Evans, and Elmira Whiteside, as well as a loving brother. She was the last surviving sibling.
Esther leaves to cherish fond and precious memories with her son, James Hunter; four beloved grandchildren, Tiffany Hunter, Dawn Jackson, Tristan Hunter, and Taye Hunter; one beloved great-granddaughter, Jamiyah Griffin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her deeply.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
