Eddie Franklin Evans, the son of the late Rev. Arthur Matthew Evans and Jacqueline Thelma Hatcher Evans was born in Springfield, Kentucky. He was an early member of Stephen Grove A.M.E. Zion Church and later of New Life Ministries. He attended Florence Chapel, Lincoln and Chesnee High School.
Eddie received his CDL license training through New England Trucking and drove for Helena Chemical and Carey Moving and Storage. Eddie lived some of his earlier years with his sister, Arthine in Indianapolis and in California before settling down in Chesnee, SC. After becoming disabled in 2017, he spent his remaining years in Pauline, SC.
His passions in life were fishing, truck driving and playing checkers and a love for Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He was a member of the Spartanburg Checker Club and played at CC Woodson and around this area, winning several trophies. Eddie was known among his checker players as “Hogman” because he rode a Harley Davidson and he raised hogs. One of his favorite singers was Frank Sinatra and his favorite song of Frank’s was “New York, New York”.
He loved his family and was quick to make them laugh with his “homespun humor.” He will be missed. Eddie leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, Raymond Scott Harrell of Indianapolis, Indiana, Roy Andrew Evans (Cindy) of Gaffney, SC; two sisters, Paula Y. Burks (Fredrick) of Douglasville, GA and Hattie E. Boyce of Spartanburg; a devoted caretaker of the home, Johnicka Byrd, and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
