Dorothy Mills Poston was born in Union County, SC August 1, 1928, the youngest child of twelve to the late Walter and Essie Jeter Mills. She transitioned from this life on Thursday September 2,2021 at 6:30pm at Heartland Health Care Center in Union, SC.
Dorothy “Dot” attended school in Union with her siblings. After attending Sims High School Dorothy moved to New York where she met and married Stephen V. Poston on May 30, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY. From this union came six children; Gail, Stephen, Karen, Gabriel, Dorothy, and Brenda (Stephen and Dorothy preceded her in death).
Dorothy was employed as a custodian at the Hebrew School in Manhattan. Dorothy aspired for a new vocation and attended school to become an offset printer.
Dorothy was known to many as a loving, quiet, and kind woman. She was a devout Jehovah’s Witness for over four decades. Dorothy enjoyed serving in the magazine ministry in New York and South Carolina until her health declined.
Soon after her husband transitioned Dorothy returned to her childhood home in Carlisle, SC, a place of comfort - truly a southern girl.
She will be missed by all and never forgotten. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Gabriel, three daughters Gail, Karen, and Brenda; twelve grandchildren: Samia Anderson-Jordan, Anastacia Mulia, Marcus Thomas, Troy Thomas, Omar Blake, Aloke Blake, Ramon Blake, Ikeem Blake, Tiffany Jennings, Travelle Jennings, Ranada Jennings, and Stephen Cairo. twenty-three great-grandchildren, one great-great=grandchild; nieces, Andrena, Carolyn, Dottie Mae, Bennie Mae, Josephine; nephew, Terry; and a host of family and friends.
