Curtis Bowls Obituary

Curtis Elton “Curti – Bird” Bowls, 67, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He was the son of both the late, Crosby Lee Bowls and Anna Bell Watson-Bowls.

Curtis attended Grade School and Paseo High School in Kansas City, Missouri. Curtis was a Master Chef at Hereford House Restaurant on the Plaza for many years in Kansas City, Missouri until he moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina. Curtis then worked as a Chef for Carolina Barbecue and later worked at Carolina Duca Coil Company.

He loved what he called being a “Technician of ideas” just to see if he could make things work. He managed to combine all his movies, music, and Bible onto his computer and watched it on his television for a week and never had to change the channel.

He enjoyed fellowship, worship as well as Bible Study at Foster Chapel Baptist Church in Roebuck, South Carolina until his health declined. He continued in prayer and Bible study lessons at home, using a computer program that he personally designed and coded himself. He loved spreading the word and talking about Jesus Christ with family and friends.

He loved his family; Curtis had a warm heart, a big smile, and enjoyed talking and checking up on family members. What will be missed the most is talking to him and sharing jokes. He always had a logical explanation for everything, and possibilities as to why things happened the way they did.

He will join his parents Cosby Lee Bowls, Anna Bell Watson-Bowls, his brothers Crosby Bowls Junior, Willie James Bowls, Bobbie Bowls, Walter Louis Bowls, Christopher Alexander Bowls and his sister Gloria Jean Bell-Bowls, who have all preceded him in Spirit.

Memories will help heal the hearts of his daughter Candace Marie Hess; three grandchildren, Dashawn Hess, Diamond Dickie, Daniel Dickie; one brother, Johnnie (Nancy) Bowls; four sisters, Gracie Lacy, Brenda (Danny) Ross, Sheila Gates, Linda Bowls of Kansas City, MO; sister in law, Lavern Bowles of Spartanburg, SC; one uncle, Prentis Bowls of Kansas City, KS; along with many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His resting place will be at Heritage Memorial Gardens alongside his brother Walter Louis Bowls.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc. 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
