Charles W. “Billy” Stewart Sr., 84, of 612 Cambridge Street, Carlisle, SC, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center. A native of Union County, he was the husband of Mildred Spencer Stewart and son of the late Eugene Stewart and Etta Mitchell Stewart.
Charles was affectionately known to others as “Billy.” He was a graduate of Sims High School in Union, SC, class of 1959. He was the owner and operator of Stewart Construction in Carlisle, SC. His extensive work history includes Pratt Whitney Inc., and Finest Warehouse both in Hartford, Connecticut. Charles’ passion was cutting grass and working in his yard. He had beautiful green grass all year round until his illness.
Charles joined Williams Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Carlisle, SC, at an early age. He was a long-time member who served as an Usher and Chairman of the trustee board. He did whatever was asked of him, cutting grass, painting, etc. He was relied upon for his kind words and support. He served loyally and faithfully until his health declined.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sons Marcus Stewart, Craig Stewart, stepson, Frederick Jeter; two brothers, Alfred Stewart, and Calvin Stewart; three sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Marva Moron, Dianne Evans; two sisters-in-law, Aleen Stewart and Floree Stewart.
Survivors left to cherish precious and fond memories include his wife of thirty-six years, Mildred Stewart of Carlisle, SC; two sons, Charles William (Cheryl) Stewart, Jr., of Newberry, SC, and Timmothy (Julia) Stewart of Tampa, FL; one daughter, Sandra Jeter of New Jersey; one stepdaughter, Anderia Jeter, of Carlisle, SC, and like a daughter, Sandra Jeter of Columbus, OH, reared in the home; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
