Billy Elliotte Hughes, husband of Berniece Martin Hughes, was born on Friday, February 15, 1946, in Union, SC, to the late Douglas Glenn and Carrie Hughes Dunn Guess. Billy entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Cone Health Alamance Regional in Burlington, NC.

Billy graduated from Sims High School, class of 1965. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to Greensboro, NC, to attend North Carolina A&T State University. He also served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He worked in management at the Sears Distribution Center. He retired as an in-school suspension coordinator at Turrentine Middle School after many dedicated years of service.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, NC.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Hazel Hughes Powell; and a nephew, Shawn Edward Powell.

Billy leaves cherished memories to his loving wife, Berniece Martin Hughes; one son, Elliotte Hughes Hopkins; one daughter, Khaliah Hughes (Jonathan) Cothran; two grandchildren, Giselle Cothran and Mason Cothran; two sisters, OrDella Dunn, and Brenda Dunn Hughes; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
