On Sunday morning June 30, 2024, we woke up to understand that sometime during the night, heaven gained another angel, Billy Ray Doggett. This portion of his journey was complete and his transition to the other side proceeded without us.
Billy Ray was employed by Grover Industries, Polk County School System and Isothermal Community College as a Maintenance Technician for many years. He made many long-time friendships during those years.
Billy Ray was born to the late Henry Doggett and Maggie Jackson-Doggett on June 8, 1935, in Gowensville, SC, where he received his education. He was the youngest of ten siblings.
In addition to his parents, Billy Ray was predeceased by nine siblings: Elizabeth Hayden, Pastor Carrie Moore, Octavia Miller, Robert Doggett, Alonzo Doggett, Lonzie Doggett, Margaret Doggett, Dorothy Kirkland, and Earl Doggett.
Billy Ray leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 55 years, Annette Wilkins-Doggett, which he married in October 1968. He was the father of five children: Todd Doggett, Caroline Cannon, Angelia Sweetenberg (Timothy) of Roanoke, VA, Theresa Henderson (Lawrence) of Columbus, NC, and Renee Doggett-Chance (Andrew) of Franklinville, NJ; six grandchildren, Latisha Miller, Candace Cannon, Lorenzo Cannon, Cassidy Sweetenberg, Nate Henderson, and Timara Sweetenberg; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was a familiar face and a staple in the Landrum community all of his life. Everyone knew Billy Ray or “Uncle Bill” as he drove through town stopping to see his sister or his nieces and nephews on Randolph Avenue. He loved his family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
