Barbara Murphy

Barbara Jean Posey Murphy, 81, of Spartanburg, SC passed away Saturday morning, August 15, 2020 at her residence. A native of Spartanburg, SC, she was the widow of Willie David Murphy Sr. and was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Thompson and Dorothy Posey. She was educated in the Spartanburg County schools and a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Spartanburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Murphy was also preceded in death by one son, Willie David Murphy Jr.; two brothers, Samuel Posey and Charles Posey; and one sister, Linda Scurry. Survivors include one son, Donald Lee Murphy of the home; one daughter, Debra Arnold, Greer, SC; three brothers, Stimpson (Queenie) Posey, Charlotte, NC, Terry Posey, NY and Steve Anthony Posey, Spartanburg, SC; three sisters, Joanne (L.C.) Ellis, Carolyn Rice and Elaine (Jimmy) Grey, all of Spartanburg, SC; nine grandchildren, many loving great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, all of whom will miss her dearly.  The family will receive friends at the home.  Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
