Barbara Ann Lindsay Kerns, was born on January 23, 1951, in Kelton, SC. She was the daughter of the late William Lindsay and Mittie Ruth Smith Forbes. Barbara was reared in the home of her grandparents the late Bennie and Willie Mae Smith.
Barbara primary and secondary education was at Benjamin E. Mays School in Pacolet, SC, and during her teen years she moved to New York where she finished her high school education. Throughout her life she worked at Converse College, Stouffer’s (Nestle) and Cryovac. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir and Kitchen Committee.
Barbara was an avid softball player, better known to her teammates and opponents as “too hot” because nothing or no one could get past her. Barbara never met a person who’s heart she did not touch by making them laugh and smile.
While living in New York she met and married her husband, and met a forever friend, Cecilia “Cookie” Jackson who preceded her in transition.
Barbara leaves behind three children; one son, Trevor Johnson of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Cass Johnson of Brooklyn, NY and Ebony Kerns of Duncan, SC; one brother, William Lindsay, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; seven grandchildren, Mark Stokes, Jr., Jarmore’ Dixon, MJ Sims, Ma’Vion Sims, Galayzia Brown, Ghayla Brown, and George Brown, Jr; three aunts, a host of cousins, loving relatives, and friends.
