Arthine Frazier Obituary

Arthine Lou Evans Frazier , 75, was born to the late Rev. Arthur M. Evans and Pauline Smith Evans on September 2, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana and was raised by Rev. Arthur M. Evans and Jacqueline T. Evans from the age of 13 years forward.  She departed this life peacefully at her home on January 25, 2022 in Spartanburg where she has resided since her retirement from Delta Airlines in Atlanta in 2010 after 30 years of service.  She received her formal education at Florence Chapel High School where she graduated Salutatorian in 1964.  She went on to attend Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.

At an early age Arthine accepted Christ and was a faithful church attendant with her family.  As an adult she faithfully attended Decatur AME Zion Church which later became Solid Rock AME Zion Church.  Among her many accolades,  she served on the Missionary Board, faithfully attended Sunday School, performed in the LIVE nativity scene each year, was the church pianist for over 10 years and was the musical director of the  children’s choir for many years.  The children openly adored her and her reputation still precedes her. She was a loving and understanding mother to her two sons as well as an adoring and affectionate grandmother to her two grandsons.

Arthine became a member of New Life Ministries Church where she served as one of the church pianists upon relocating from Atlanta, GA to Spartanburg after her retirement.  Her favorite quote to the church family was, “You never graduate from Sunday School.”  Everyone who knew her experienced how knowledgeable and how much fun she was.  She always had encouraging words to give and always something uplifting.  Those close to her sought her sage advice and wisdom on life.  She was quick witted and had a sense of humor that was intelligently playful.  Her strength and independence was worthy of the respect of all who graced her presence; yet, she remained humble in spirit always placing Christ first and above all.  She was a true servant of the Lord who continued to trust him even during times of illness and fatigue.  She always chose uplifting music and shunned anything sad or “death and dying” as she called them.  Even when she was unable to attend church she sent a list of songs she wanted to hear.  She proudly and unapologetically beat all of us in Scrabble and she never let us forget it!  As an avid reader, she was intelligent and astute.  She also enjoyed sewing and caring for her many plants.

Arthine was preceded in death by one brother, Sydney Evans, and 2 sisters, Mattie Jane Evans and Jacqueline Marie Williams.  She leaves behind to cherish her memories:  2 sons, Jihad Uhuru, Andre Lamont Frazier (René);  2 grandsons, D’Andre Frazier, and Xyon Thompson all of Atlanta, GA; 3 brothers, Raymond Harrell of Indianapolis, Indiana, Eddie F. Evans of Spartanburg, SC, and Roy A. Evans (Cindy) of  Gaffney, SC; 2 sisters, Paula Y. Burks (Fredrick) of Douglasville, GA, and Hattie E. Boyce of Spartanburg, SC and a host of nephews and nieces.  She also leaves a beloved companion,  Michael Lipscomb of the home and Olivia Cancer of Spartanburg Regional Hospital who affectionately called her “Auntie Tina”, both members of the New Life Ministries Church family.
