Annie Mae Tanner Pitts, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday morning, August 15, 2025, at Patewood Post Acute in Greenville, SC. She was born on Tuesday, January 18, 1938. She was the widow of Paul Pitts, Sr., and daughter of the late Jethro Tanner, Sr., and Maybelle Johnson Tanner.
Annie, affectionately known as “Aunt Ann” and “Red” was educated in the Spartanburg public school system. She had a heart of compassion serving others in need. She was a cosmetologist. She retired as a certified nursing assistant at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan, IL. After retirement, she worked at White Oaks Nursing Home in Tryon, NC. She was a member of Prayer Garden Church of God in Christ in the city of North Chicago, IL. While there she served as a Church Mother, Purity Class Teacher, cook, and missionary. After relocating, she joined Union Grove Baptist Church in Columbus, NC. While there she served as a missionary, a Sunday school teacher, sung on the choir, and was on the cooking committee.
In addition to her husband of sixty-five years of marriage and parents, Annie is preceded in eternal rest by her daughter, Sheretta Pitts Wilson; two grandsons, Robert Christian Grant, and Jeremiah Williams; two great-granddaughters, Syriah Wiggins and Shyniah Wiggins; one great-grandson, Nigel Johnson, Jr., one great-great grandson, Cayden Britton; four brothers, Frank Tanner, Arthur Johnson, Lawrence Tanner, Jethro Tanner, Jr.; and two sisters, Ruthie Mae Tanner and Genevieve Tanner.
She leaves to celebrate her life seven children, Evangelist Barbara Ann Pitts (Willie Bennie) Jones, Paul, Jr., (Joann) Pitts, Rose Mary Pitts (Pastor Mashon) Nance, Evangelist Joyce Marie Pitts (Bishop Charles Raymond, II) Williams, Dr. Karen Priscilla Pitts (Dr. Bernard) Bush, Minister Fredrick Allen Pitts, and Clyde Emanuel (Christy) Pitts. She has forty-four grandchildren; one hundred five great- grandchildren; and twenty-four great-great grandchildren; her sister Maggie Ann Tanner (Minister James Sherman, Sr.) Copeland; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
