Tommie Lee Tucker was born August 18, 1949 in Union, SC. He was the son of the late Berry Tucker and Rhoda Mae Sims Tucker. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC. Tom was educated in the Union County School System and he graduated from Sims High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, Tom joined Norfolk Southern Corporation (NSC) on January 17, 1973 as a bridge and maintenance specialist. After dedicating thirty-six years of his life to NSC he retired his career with NSC as project supervisor of the Piedmont Division on August 1, 2009. After retirement Tom enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, family, and friends. He also enjoyed taking trips to Myrtle Beach and spending time with his companion. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, James Arthur Tucker, Ivory “Fat Sam” Tucker, and Ulicious “Man” Tucker and five sisters, Esther Smith, Shirley Jennings, Dorothy Hendrick, Mary Weston, and Beatrice Jones. He is survived by three sons, Ronald LaMont Means of Boiling Springs, SC, Karlton Burkins of Charlotte, NC, and Robbie Jeter of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Sharon (Paul) Williams of Charlotte, NC, Kai Burkins of York, SC, and Tiffany (Joshua) Conerly of Conyers, GA; three grandchildren, Khari Olgesby, Joshua Conerly, II, and Jackson Conerly; his companion, Vernice Cheek of Gibsonville, NC; three brothers, Howard “Pete” (Phyllis) Tucker of Carlisle, SC, Willie Lewis (Sarah) Tucker of Union, SC, and Joseph “Pig” (Debra) Tucker of Clinton, MD; one sister, Barbara Ann “Pookie” (Stanley) Bowser (sister) of Chester, SC; brother-in-law, Thomas B. Jones; sisters-in-law, Mary Tucker and Ruth Ann Tucker; a devoted cousin who he loved as a brother, James Earl “Pepsi” Sims; two devoted nephews, James Tucker and Reggie Tucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Community Mortuary. The family will receive friends at the home. Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
