Mamie Vanderhost Mitchell, 99, of 1005 Union Boulevard, Union, SC passed away Friday evening, December 13, 2019 in Union Medical Center. A native of Forsyth County, NC, she was the widow of Jesse "Brown Bomber" Mitchell, Sr. and daughter of the late Joe Vanderhost and Minnie Thompson Vanderhost. She was a member of Woodson Chapel Baptist Church where she served as the Mother of the Church, a member of the Women's Aid Society, and a former choir member. She was a retired textile employee. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jesse Mitchell, Jr., one daughter, Minnie Mitchell-Bishop, two great-grandchildren, Shavontee Glenn and Lacey Rashea Davis Kennedy, and a brother, Ernest Vanderhost. She is survived by two sons, Benjamin Mitchell of Union, SC and Ernest Mitchell of Spartanburg, SC; three daughters, Mary Gaston of Charlotte, NC, Martha Stewart of Charlotte, NC, and Romona "Cindy" Mitchell of Ellenwood, GA; a godson, Ernest Clayton of Union, SC; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; a host of other family members; and her two great-grand puppies, Penny and Lamar. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Woodson Chapel Baptist Church, 1447 Meansville Road, Union, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
