John Sullivan Sanders, born in Union, SC, August 20, 1943, of St. Albans (Queens), New York, demised, on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Jamaica Hospital, Queens, New York. John Sullivan Sanders was born the oldest son of demised pastor L. C. and Mrs. Sarah M. Lee Sanders, who nurtured John Sullivan from infancy, and biological demised mother, Kate Ruff Sanders (d. 1943) who passed due to childbirth complications. John Sullivan was a 1962 graduate of Sims High School. As a student, he had training playing the piano under Mrs. Mamie Hempfield; a member of Boy Scouts of America, under the leadership of his father, who established the troop in Union, SC; employed as a teenage bus driver, who drove the longest school bus at Sims High School. Everyone loved riding his bus to school not only because of his spacious bus size his friendly and humble disposition. John Sullivan enjoyed going fishing with his parents, group studying at home with his friends especially, English and French; going to games and enjoying listening to music and going to concerts when major artists came to his hometown or surrounding areas. John Sullivan always enjoyed his mother’s exceptional delicious and healthy cooking, baking and food preparations. Even when he was away from the house visiting others, he’d never fail to return home at the exact time for dinner to be served. John Sullivan was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church, Union, SC, where his father and mother, the Dr. Reverend Leslie C. (L. C.) Sanders and Mrs. Sarah Magdalene (Lee) Sanders, led him to The Lord, and where he declared Jesus, the Christ, as his personal Lord and Savior, and attended Sunday School and church, every Sunday. His father baptized him, and served as his pastor and teacher of the Gospel of Jesus, The Christ., not only at church, but , moreover, at home. John Sullivan attended church and Sunday School with his parents and siblings, every week, along with his devoted friend, buddy, neighbor and classmate, Leroy Farr, who preceded in death in 2018. John attended and served at the following churches under his father and mother pastoral leadership: St. Paul Baptist Church, Union, SC; Springfield and Mt. Zion Baptist Churches, Laurens, SC, prior to departing the south, Union, SC, en route to the north, New York City, his dreamed, envisioned and final destination. While In his early years in New York, John Sullivan was employed with the Greyhound Bus Company. Later, in 1970, he was employed and worked until his retirement for the New York City Transit Authority, first, as a conductor, later as an engineer-motorman, awarded for exemplary and loyal service of 26 years, where he retired.
John Sullivan Sanders, born August 20, 1943, 76 years old,vanished his earthly tabernacle officially at 2:34 PM on Thursday afternoon, November 7, at the Jamaican Hospital, Queens, New York. John Sullivan Sanders is the first child of the four offsprings of Pastor and Mrs. L.C. Sanders, to report back to Creator, our Father, God. John Sullivan Sanders was predecesed by his parents, the highly esteemed pastor-teacher, educators and religious and civic leaders, Dr. ( Reverend ) Mrs. L. C. Sanders; two (2) first cousins this year(2019)-Melton Lewis , Jr., St. Louis, Missouri (Feb.2019); and his sister, Donna Jo (Lewis)Metcalf ( Aug. 2019) San Antonio, Texas. John Sullivan is survived by his wife, Marjorie Bostick Sanders, born in Robertsville, Jasper County, SC, of St. Albans, (Queens) NY; two daughters, Jacqueline Denise (Sanders)Winston (Jarrell),Shoreham, NY;Tisha L.(Sanders)Jordan(William Curtis),Norfolk, Virginia. He is also survived by three (3) grandchildren:Janay D. Winston, Curtis J. Jordan and Jarrell D. Winston. Additionally, John Sullivan is survived by three (3) siblings: one (1) brother, Leslie Stanley Sanders, Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Carolyn L. Sanders-Cleveland, Columbia, SC, and Reba L. Sanders Williams, Gaston, SC; three (3)aunts: Millie (Smith)Sanders Garnes (age 98) Manhattan, NY, originally of Union, SC; Alice Hazel (Lee) Baker (age 89) Columbia, SC; and Lilliie Bell Ware, (age latter 80’s) Anderson, SC; one uncle, Sullivan Rough, Chattanooga, TN; two brothers-in-law; Benjamin Bostick (Geraldine) and Ronald Bostick (Clara) both of Garnet, SC; and numerous close cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
