George "Peewee" Gilliam Obituary

George "Peewee" Gilliam, 68, of 119 Bonner Road, Lot #10, Spartanburg, SC passed away Saturday morning, December 28, 2019 at his residence.  A native of Gastonia, NC, he was husband of Mary Spears Gilliam of the home and son of the late George Pendergrass Mary Louise Gilliam Pendergrass.  He was a member of Lockhart Chapel Baptist Church and a former employee of Morgan Construction Corp.  He served in the US Army as a quarry machine operator and a blaster and powder man.  He received the National Service Defense Medal.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sons, Mickey and Rickey Gilliam; one daughter, China Hall; and two brothers, Perry and Jerry Pendergrass.  Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, Chauffery Gilliam of Spartanburg, SC, Tromone (Brooke) Hall of Spartanburg, SC, Marcus Gist of Union, SC, and Darnell Pendergrass of OR; two daughters, Aldonza (Melvin) Thomas of Jonesville, SC and Mikalea Chisholm of Chester, SC;  twenty-seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn (Franklin) Harris of Union, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2020 at Believers Fellowship AOG Church.  The family will receive friends at the home.  Arrangements are with Community Mortuary, 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
