Dorothy Robinson, 82, of 1083 Carlisle Street, Bamberg, SC died Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Regional Medical Center. Dorothy Lee Nimmons Robinson was born in Bamberg, SC on March 27, 1937. She was the wife of McQueen Robinson and daughter of the late Alzena Hightower Nimmons Walker, Leroy Nimmons and David Walker. She departed this earthly life on July 22, 2019. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Alzena Robinson; two sons, Charles Robinson and Danny Lee Corrbett; and one grandson, Avery Robinson. “Mrs. Dot” as she was affectionately referred, was a true soldier for Christ. She visited the sick and helped the needy – she talked the talk and walked the walk for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was never about her. It was all about Jesus and living to please Him. She attended the public schools of Bamberg and worked at Bamberg Manufacturing for many years until it closed. Dorothy also provided home care assistance and cared for and reared many other children -- not hers by birth--- but who referred to her as “Mrs. Dot.” Her community affiliations include but are not limited to Bamberg Best Chance, Bamberg County FCL, Chat and Chew Club, Lifelong member of Capernaum Baptist Church, former advisor of the Sunbeam Choir for many years, Senior Gospel Choir, Mothers Board and other church activities. Her loved for being an usher was paramount. She loved serving as a “doorkeeper” for the Lord. She also attended St. John’s Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. If you wanted red velvet cake, sweet potato pie, or lemon pie, or dessert, call “Mrs. Dot”. If you needed something canned or preserved, call “Mrs. Dot”. If you needed a ride, call “Mrs. Dot”. If “Mrs. Dot” had it, you had it. Her joys were many. She especially loved visiting the nursing homes and playing bingo. She leaves precious and fond memories to her husband, McQueen of the home; three daughters, Dorothy Ann Robinson of Denmark, SC, and Rosa (Michael) Verner and Vernica Hightower both of Bamberg, SC; two sons, Clarence (Renee’) Robinson of Charlotte, NC, and Harold (Stephanie) Robinson of Charlotte, NC, one daughter-in-law, Clara Robinson of Orangeburg, SC one aunt, Annie Gomez of Bamberg, SC, two nephews reared in the home; Nathan Walker of Bamberg, SC and Ulysses Gessentanner of Albany, GA two grandsons reared in the home, Antonio Lamont (Ashley) Robinson of Goose Creek, SC, and Brandon Robinson of Las Vegas, NV; one great-grandson reared in the home, Brandon Robinson Jr. of the home; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Elliot “Mutin” Walker of Bamberg, SC, two sisters Lula Odoms and Geneva Lewis both of Brooklyn, NY, two sisters-in law, Dorothy Mae Jamison of York, PA and Eva Mae Walker of Bamberg, SC, two special nephews James (Margaret) Walker and Craig (Janeth) Walker Bamberg, SC of and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were all so dear to her. arrangements are with Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg.
