Helen R. Warwick

Helen R. Warwick, passed on Friday, 12 April 2024 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. She was born August 11, 1938   in Union, SC. to the late Nathaniel and Ruth Jeanette Lyles (Hughes). She graduated from Sims High School in Union, South Carolina. She was a member of the honors society and participated in Track. She was elected Miss Sims High during her senior year. Helen earned a BS degree in Business Education at North Carolina A&T State University. She taught for one year in Paulsboro and many years in the East Brunswick school district, (where she retired).  She was a dedicated teacher: frequently, remaining after school to provide extra help to her students.   

Helen loved to travel and to take cruises. She was blessed to be able to take more than 8 cruises.  She visited Hawaii and many Caribbean Islands.  It became special for her to visit Florida for baseball spring training (and the beach) during the month of March with her husband.  As of 2019, they were able to take this trip together for fourteen consecutive years. 

Religion:  She was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church for more than   53 years and served on the Church’s Scholarship committee for most of these years.  

She married her college sweetheart, Robert E. Warwick at Fort Dix, NJ in 1961. They had one child, a daughter, Sharon D. Warwick (who was so special to both of them). 

Predeceased by her sister Gertrude Lyles Thomas and brothers: Wallace Lyles and James Henry Lyles.  She leaves to cherish her memory: Robert E. Warwick (her husband for 62 tears), her daughter, Sharon D. Warwick, three sisters: Hazel Lyles, Venetia Fisher and Gladys Gray (Lenny) and two brothers, Eugene Lyles (Sarah) and Nathaniel Lyles (Elizabeth) plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
