Miss Barbara Jean Tate was born on January 28, 1963, to the late Mr. Samuel Hurd Tate Sr. and the late Mrs. Amy Louvenia Dixon Tate. On March 4, 2024, Barbara Jean, a resident at Edisto Post-Acute Care in Orangeburg, SC, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior. Barbara Jean was of the Baptist faith, loved her Lord, family, and church. She was raised in Spartanburg, SC and Dotham, AL by her aunts.
Barbara Jean was loving and easy-going. She had a dynamite smile that could quieten any angry words, she loved herself some Adriana, her daughter, whom she continuously called “her baby.”
In addition to her parents Barbara Jean was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Reverend Clester “CT” Tate, and Mrs. Frances Porter Tate; maternal grandparents, Mr. Richard Dixon Sr., and Mrs. Laura Dixon; and her oldest sister, Allison Tate Grubbs Harris.
Left to cherish fond memories are her daughter Adriana Arielle Tate; sisters, Samantha Brown and Lindella Porterfield of Newark, NJ, Frances Brown of Vanuergrift, PA; brothers, Gregory, Zachary, and Patrick Porterfield of Newark, NJ, and Samuel H. Tate, Jr., of Bronx, NY; Mrs. Isabelle G. Tate, her step-mother and go-to-person, whom she affectionately called, “Ma Belle”; a first cousin, Pam Underwood with whom Barbara Jean was partially raised. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
