Alexander "Alex" "Big Luke" Sims

Alexander "Alex" "Big Luke" Sims, 79, of Carlisle, SC, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Spartanburg Medical Center. A native of Newberrry County, SC, he was the husband of Barbara Jean Spencer Sims and son of the late Joseph E. and Della Fannie Dawkins Sims. He attended Gallman High School in Newberry, SC. He was a member of Seekwell Baptist Church where he served as deacon as well as their gifted and enthusiastic lead guitar player. Mr. Sims had a long time successful career in construction. Among his positions, he worked as a cement finisher at Duke Power and eventually retired from Santuc Chip Mill as a Crane Operator after nineteen years of dedicated service.

"Alex", as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by four brothers, Young Buck Sims, Elbert Woodroe Sims, Hiram Sims, and Joseph Sims, Jr.; five sisters, Willie Lee Sims, Australia Sims Chick, Lydia Sims, Sadie Bessie Sims, and Virginia Wilson; one brother-in-law, Clary Wilson; and one sister-in-law, Hattie Mae Sims.

Those left to cherish fond and loving memories are his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Spencer Sims; three sons, Martin Sims, Alexander (Linda) Sims, Jr., and Alexander Moses; eight loving grandchildren; fourteen adoring great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene (Corrine) Sims; one sister, Della (Fred) Thomas; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him sorely.

The family will receive friends at 111 Clearbranch Road, Carlisle, SC
